Changes in sleep and appetite. Difficulty concentrating. Restlessness. Irritability. Anxiety and depression have many overlapping symptoms and can have drastic impacts on our work, home life, and social interactions. The good news is therapy can help you learn to manage and navigate these symptoms.
Maybe you've been feeling down for a while, or things that you used to enjoy just don't seem as fun anymore. Or maybe you feel yourself feeling constantly on edge, worrying and overthinking every little thing.
Therapy for anxiety and depression can help. These symptoms rarely happen in a vacuum-- often there are life stressors, health conditions, relationship challenges, or a sense of feeling directionless that contribute to how we feel. We'll start therapy by getting to know each other-- I'll ask you about past and present factors that may contribute to how you feel, and we'll come up with some realistic goals for how you would like to see your life look different.
To accomplish your goals, I use a variety of therapy techniques, not limited to but including:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps us identify and define our personal values and use them to orient ourselves in a direction that provides us with purpose. It incorporates mindfulness skills to help us take meaningful actions in our lives even when uncomfortable emotions or experiences are there.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can help decrease the intensity of anxiety symptoms and help our brain and our bodies to get "unstuck" from perpetual fight/flight/freeze/fawn mode.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps us to identify our attachment patterns (ways of interacting with other people). As humans, we are wired to connect with other humans, and understanding these patterns can insight into the impact our relationships have on our mental and emotional well-being and vice-versa, and help us to start changing patterns that may no longer be serving us.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) provides us practical skills for emotional regulation when we feel overwhelmed by negative self-talk, worry, anger, or even thoughts of self-harm.
