Clinical supervision is an critical and necessary part of pursuing full clinical licensure in Colorado. Under Colorado regulations, as an LCSW I am qualified to offer clinical supervision to Clinical Social Work Candidates (SWCs), Licensed Social Workers (LSWs) working towards clinical licensure, and Licensed Professional Counselor Candidates (LPCCs).
Just like it is important for therapy clients to find a therapist who is a good fit, I also believe that you as a licensure candidate deserve to work with a therapist who is knowledgeable, aligned with your professional goals and interests, and who both challenges you and supports you. Please see below to read a bit more about my professional background and supervision style, and reach out for a consultation call if you would like to chat further. I look forward to hearing from you!
Professional Background
Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Addiction Counselor in the state of Colorado
Master of Science in Social Work, Kent School of Social Work, University of Louisville, 2017
Prior to coming to starting my private practice, my professional experience has included:
Case management and crisis experience in a non-profit, working with survivors of sexual assault
Working as a behavioral health provider in integrated healthcare at a federally qualified health center, serving patients in both urban and rural settings, including many Spanish-speaking patients. In this setting, I had the opportunity to work alongside medical providers and clinical pharmacists as well as work with migrant farm workers on a mobile health clinic. I provided mental health screenings, brief consultations, and short-term therapy.
Working as a mental health therapist in school-based clinics. I provided long-term therapy to students K-12, though my primary focus and experience was with middle and high school students. I collaborated with medical providers and psychiatry providers as well as school counselors and psychologists to coordinate care. In this setting, I worked with clients and families from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
During my time in these settings, I had the privilege of working with clients across the age span and with a variety of clinical presentations, as well as clients from multicultural backgrounds. Prior to attending graduate school, I lived in Guatemala for 4 years, which provided me with the opportunity for language and cultural immersion, an experience that has served me well professionally as I often work with Spanish-speaking clients and immigrants.
Clinical Training and Approach
I often pull from a variety of therapeutic modalities when working with clients, based on their individual needs and goals. I consider myself a collaborative, strengths-based clinician who views clinical work through a the lens of systems theory and attachment theory and highly values cultural humility. I also believe in considering the connection between mental, emotional, and physical health as well as the important roles that fostering a connection with nature, animals, and other human beings can have in an individual's healing process.
Some of the main therapeutic modalities in which I have specific training and which I integrate in my clinical work include: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I also have completed specialized training in treating peripartum and postpartum mood disorders through Postpartum Support International and a certificate in Animals and Human Health through the University of Denver. Please feel free to ask me more details about my clinical background and training.
Supervision Background
During my time working in community settings, I provided clinical supervision to multiple masters level students, social work licensure candidates, and a bachelor’s level social work intern.
Additionally, I have completed specialized training in clinical supervision as part of the requirements I completed to become a Licensed Addiction Counselor in 2021, and I also completed the NASW-CO Clinical Supervision for Licensure training in 2023.
I am committed to furthering my education and experience as a clinical supervisor by participating in consultation of supervision meetings as well as continuing education opportunities focused on clinical supervision.
Supervision Style and Approach
Similar to my approach as a therapist, I do my best to approach supervision collaboratively. I strive to be both approachable and challenging as a supervisor and I want this to be a safe place to discuss challenges that arise and feel supported as you grow as a clinician. I also desire for supervision to inspire you to constantly learn and grow your skill set as a therapist.
I expect you to come to supervision sessions prepared with questions and topics to discuss. Our time together will include both learning-- discussion of therapeutic modalities, ethics, and cultural humility, for example-- as well as reflection on your clinical practice and how to integrate these concepts into your work with clients. I also prioritize the discussion and application of self-care and burnout prevention, so that you can have a long and healthy career as a mental health professional.
I believe that developing, honing, and applying critical thinking skills is essential to being a good therapist who feels confident in your clinical judgement and ability to navigate difficult situations. I also believe that consultation with other therapists should be an essential part of your work throughout your career, and developing that habit now is incredibly valuable.
